Pagkalami jud sa pagkaun sa Nanay Bebeng Restaurant.. YUMMY!!!
I was at Nanay Bebeng a couple of days ago and I would say, the food was truly delicious. It’s a buffet meal that displays variety of asian cuisines; most of it were local food, the surely makes your mouth wanting for more. You have to loved the way they grilled the chicken, tuna belly, karekare, crispy kangkong(something new), calamansi juice and many more. Essert and drinks are good especially the fresh fruit salad and the sugar-free ice-cream.
Nanay Bebeng Restaurant is one of the first, if not the first, to offer buffet style of dining here in Davao City. For only Php 295.00 per person, you can eat all you want. It will surely never failed to satisfy your craving for filipino delicious food. And also, they have this original style, the way they display/present their food that makes you wanna jump right into it and eat everything you can.

DMSFI FunRun! on August 6, 2011
The DMSFI Alumni Association in cooperation with Buklod Medesina and Medicine Batch 2012 will be having their FunRun in support to the scholarship program of the DMSFI Alumni Association. This will be on August 6, 2011 details in the poster below. Please tag your friends and bring them during the fun run. Hope to see you!

DepEd clarifies stand on Ateneo de Davao Facebook ban
Clarifying a statement he made Tuesday, Department of Education (DepEd) spokesperson Kenneth Tirado on Wednesday said he does not see the need for a Facebook ban in public elementary and high schools in general – and not Ateneo de Davao University, in particular.
Tirado was quoted in the morning newscast “Dobol B sa News TV" as saying that the DepEd opposes the partial Facebook ban in Ateneo de Davao.
Tirado said the context of his statement, which he gave the newscast via text message, pertains to public elementary and high schools, which fall under DepEd jurisdiction. “We don’t think there’s a need to ban [social networking sites]. We just need to teach our students to be responsible users," Tirado said in his message.
“There was no intention to single out Ateneo de Davao. As a university, it’s not under the purview of DepEd," he added.
Tirado noted that his original statement was “not that specific," and explained that public school students do not have time to use social networking sites in school in the first place, given the limits in school resources. — TJD, GMA News

Facebook ban spurs picket at Ateneo de Davao
Students and some faculty members picketed the Ateneo de Davao University last week in protest of the restrictions imposed on them in going online on social networking site Facebook within campus.
Students complained that they were required to pay more than P1,300 as “information technology fee" each semester.
But the administration of Ateneo de Davao clarified that Facebook is “not totally banned" in their university, but rather the restrictions prohibit students from going to the popular site from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only.
School officials said that the sheer number of people who go on Facebook on campus heavily overburdens the university’s internet service bandwidth, such that it negatively impacts on the university’s other online services.

“Most of our books are not really physically in the library. It’s online, they [students] can read these books while they are inside the campus," Assistant to the President of Ateneo de Davao University Jeremy Eliab told GMA News.
“Now, if Facebook is eating the bandwidth, it’s impossible to download the whole book," he explained.
“We want our personnel to focus more on – not on social networking – but on their necessary work, basically educational work," he added.
Eliab also said the ban was also a disciplinary measure to prohibit students from accessing Facebook during their classes.
Faculty statements
After the official announcement of the ban, an open letter was issued stating: “The College Faculty Union of Ateneo de Davao University (CFU) vehemently protests the blocking of social networking sites such as Facebook and Friendster, including other sites. The blocking is initiated by the Technical Service Office (TSO) of the university, as the internet site claims to be [sic]. This infringes on the freedom of information and of expression which requires thorough discussion beforehand to determine what constitutes a violation or not. The CFU will file grievance as initial and LEGAL response directed to the head of TSO."
On his blog, Ateneo de Davao professor Dominique Cimafranca noted that the picketers held up placards with Facebook’s blue-and-white “f" logo and the statement “Stop Facebook Ban."
“They do know what an ‘F’ means academically, right?" he wrote wryly that he had quipped to his fellow faculty member.

Duterte guilty of misconduct: Local Government
MANILA -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) found Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte guilty of misconduct for punching a court sheriff during a demolition of illegal settlers' shanties last July 1.
However, the DILG could not file administrative charges against the mayor due to some legal actions earlier filed by the Sheriffs Confederation of the Philippines (Scophil) at the Office of the Ombudsman.
Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo said Scophil's complaint precluded the DILG from filing its own administrative case against the mayor because "this will violate the principle of forum-shopping."
Aside from the direct assault charge filed by the sheriffs' group, a Manila-based lawyer also filed disbarment case against Duterte at the Supreme Court.
"This level understands Mayor Duterte's attempt to help her constituents avoid bloodshed or prevent sustaining injuries to them by delaying enforcing the court order for at least two hours. But punching the court sheriff was neither an acceptable nor the only option then obtaining," read the report submitted by Robredo to President Benigno Aquino III.
Duterte lost her cool and punched Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 16 sheriff Abe Andres repeatedly in the face after not granting the mayor's request of a two-hour extension before pushing through with the demolition.
The incident happened at Agdao district here on July 1, when Andres implemented a writ of demolition on hundreds of illegal shanties on a privately owned property.
In the same report, Robredo said Duterte's defense was inexcusable and that she could have averted the demolition without using force.
"While it is true that she did not...manifest anything that will show her defiance of the writ of demolition...her acts of preventing the execution of the order of Judge (Emmanuel) Carpio, particularly when she punched Sheriff (Abe) Andres, could be an act of misconduct," the report read.
"She could have achieved the same purpose by directing the policemen that she was settling the matter. She could have summoned and confronted the sheriff and plead her case for the affected families without taking the law into her own hands," it added.
Robredo said Duterte could have talked to the plaintiff for her to be given the requested grace period or she could still exhaust remaining or possible legal remedies that will stay the demolition, temporarily or otherwise.
"When Mayor Duterte did not venture in any of these options, probable cause has existed for her to be indicted for misconduct," the report said.
Robredo also noted that the court had a share of missteps when it tried to enforce the demolition, through Andres, without observing the required 30-day notice.
The report said the court should have taken into consideration that the affected families are mostly urban dwellers and that the 30-day reglamentary period must have been applied.
It was referring to a provision of the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992, which states that a 30-day grace period must be observed before the implementation of the demolition order.
"Had the 30-day notice rule been applied, the tension that erupted between the urban poor dwellers and the demolition team that was triggered by affecting the writ and that led to the untoward incident involving the Mayor and the sheriff could have not taken place," the order read.
As for Duterte's close-in security aide Police Officer 2 Dennis Roderick Cabudti, the department asked the Philippine National Police (PNP) to conduct an investigation to determine any administrative liability.
Cabudti was the police officer caught on video footages grabbing Andres by the hand and head and dragging him to the mayor during the incident.
The report also contained the department's recommendations to the Office of the Supreme Court Administrator on how to avoid a repeat of such incident.
On Wednesday, Duterte remained mum on the recommendation of the DILG to Aquino, who is her political ally.
"No official copy was given to me. I will not comment on the statements of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo. I will just wait for notice of summons for the cases," the mayor said.
Duterte earlier said she is ready to face whatever legal and even personal consequences that she might face over the incident.
Even if it means disbarment and dismissal from her post, Duterte said she will accept it whole-heartedly.

Govt employees' union lauds DILG finding vs Duterte-Carpio
Government employees’ umbrella organization, COURAGE, has urged Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo to “immediately wrap up its case" on Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Robredo said the fact-finding committee he tasked to probe the punching incident between the mayor and court sheriff Abe Andres found Duterte-Carpio liable for “conduct unbecoming of a public official."
The ad-hoc committee said in a report to Robredo that the Davao City mayor’s “acts of preventing the execution of the Order of Judge Carpio, particularly when she punched Sheriff Andres, could be an act of misconduct."
COURAGE or Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees said in a statement that Duterte-Carpio’s physical assault on Sheriff Andres is a “wanton, over-display of power" that cannot be justified “no matter how noble her intentions may have been."
The Revised Uniform Rules in Administrative Cases in the Civil Service provides the system for grounds, penalties and remedies in administrative cases involving civil servants like Duterte-Carpio.
“Conduct unbecoming of a public official" is not a specific charge in these rules but there is a violation called “conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service" which carries a penalty of suspension of six months and one day to one year for the first offense. A second offense has the penalty of dismissal.
These civil service rules do provide, however, for dismissal on the first offense of grave misconduct.
The Local Government Code of 1991 has an entire chapter on disciplinary actions. Again, “conduct unbecoming of a public official" is not listed, but there is a catch-all clause saying “Such other grounds as may be provided in this Code and other laws" in Chapter IV. — With Earl Rosero/VS, GMA News

I was thinking of diving again next month. I missed the trill underwater. Its like a different world down there. The sight was truly magnificent and the fishes were to alive.
I can still recall my first dive which eventually leads to a series of diving. The professional divers we ask to accompany us are from Cadarao Dive Center. There divers are very friendly, accommodating and very approachable. They will help and assist you, explain very thoroughly the procedure and signs under water which is helpful in times of danger. I would highly recommend Carabao Dive Center if you are planning to dive here in Davao City, particularly in Samal Coast.
During the dive, we visited not one site but three diving sites with ubiquitous coral reefs, marvelous limestone cliffs and caves, turquoise, emerald and sapphire waters. The best part was the photos they took underwater and some short videos for souvenirs. It was one of my memorable experienced that I’m longing to repeat.
So, lets dive in Davao.!!
