DAVAO CITY (2nd update, 10:14 a.m.) -- Fatalities in the flooding incident caused by heavy rains in this city late Tuesday night has risen to 14.
A television report said majority of the fatalities are children living beside the Matina river, which overflowed.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte earlier confirmed that four fatalities include a girl aged three to four, a six-year-old boy, a man and a woman aged more than 50.
Search and rescue teams found the bodies of the fatalities early Wednesday during their operations.
Fifteen others earlier went missing and thousands were affected in the three-hour downpour from past 10 p.m. Tuesday to around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
It was not immediately known if the some of the 15 people missing were among the dead.
Authorities have yet to identify the latest fatalities.
Duterte said the heavy rains caused rivers to overflow, particularly the Matina river that caused floods of up to more than 10 meters high.
She said the affected villages include Matina Pangi, Matina Crossing, Matina Aplaya, and Talomo.
Classes in the four villages were suspended Wednesday.
Duterte said residents in the four villages were evacuated and around 20,000 to 40,000 were affected by the floods.
She added the most affected was Barangay Matina Pangi, where the flood washed out the homes of about 40 families. Matina river is located in the said village.
The mayor said it was not the first time Matina river overflowed, however, almost all the rivers in the city overflowed, which caused flooding.
Duterte also said the flood has subsided and some residents returned to their homes and conducted cleanup operations.
The search and rescue operation is ongoing for the missing people. (Sunnex)

I have the opportunity to visit Lemlunay Dive Resort in Saranggani Province and it was one of the best places to stay and relax. But first of all, it was said that the word Lemlunay actually a B’laan and T’Boli word which means “the good place one goes to in the afterlife”. Is that scares who? Well, wait till you visit the place, it is heaven on earth for some few. Lemlunay Dive Resort is located in Maasim, Saranggani Province. It’s a thirty minutes drive, more or less, from the urban environment of General Santos City.
I came to this place because of a company team building activities. Yes, the company I’ve worked at the moment sponsored our annual Team Building Activity in Lemlunay Dive Resort. Isn’t this company simply the best?
When we arrive at the place, it was not complete finish. Some rooms are still of the construction or finishing mode but there are a number of rooms already in place to cater large number of people just like us. The room is air-conditioned where we’ve stayed and the room is big to a two-bed occupant.
A short distance from the cliff, the bottom of the sea drops about 30 feet and the coral wall presents itself with marine life all a-bustle.
Aside from is a Diver’s spot, I would also recommend to any nature lovers out there. It’s a nice place to relax while watching the blue/green waters at the top of the cliff. You will be amazed the site how beautiful it is.
One of the best spot in Lemlunay Dive Resort was their infinite pool. I have pictures below just to show that it simply good to stay and swim in the pool.
So, you are planning to stay in this lovely resort, you can reach them and make an arrangement via mobile phone: +63(920)914-9259. Hope their number hasn’t change.
If you’re looking for an affordable, fast and crunchy fried chicken, Chicken Tsunami is the place to go. Chicken Tsunami is our local chicken vendor selling fried chicken at a very affordable price. It is best for students, price conservative people and for people like me who just want to eat fried chicken any time of the day. It is a good place for quick lunch or dinner for people on the go.
I have spotted two Chicken Tsunami outlets; one is inside Victoria Plaza compound and the other one is along Torres St. beside Fair Lines.
I remember eating at Chicken Tsunami at Victoria Plaza. For just P28 only for a value meal, one piece of fried chicken and a cup of rice, you’re already satisfied. You can even add for extra rice at P5 only. What can you ask more?
For those people who have not tried eating at Chicken Tsunami, you should try it and surely you’ve love it.
Here are the five things that are common between you and a pencil…
1. A Pencil Has Purpose
God made a pencil to make its mark in this world. Early on, it must establish its purpose—it’s not a backscratcher, or a toy that you twirl around your finger, or a can opener, or (sorry for the grossness) an ear cleaner…
If a pencil diverts its purpose, it will destroy its very existence. It you use it for something else, it will endanger its life. The pencil gets broken and you won’t be able to write anymore.
In the same way, you need to establish your purpose. You can’t be distracted, or you endanger your very existence. You must be focused on one thing. What is your one thing?
I don’t know about you, but I like to be with people of purpose. Who know their one thing. Because they are focused on one thing, they are excellent people. They move with direction.
I ask you again: What’s your one thing?
2. A Pencil Has Priority
The inside of a pencil is more important than the outside of the pencil. Because the insides are connected to its purpose. On the outside, it could be have dirt, have bite marks, have chipped paint, but that doesn’t matter as long as its insides are working.
Like the pencil, your purpose is connected to what’s inside you, not what’s outside you.
What am I saying? Your money or your house or your car or your watch or your cell phone won’t make you happy. It’s what’s inside you that will make you happy.
The Divine imprint is in you. Inside you is the image and likeness of God. The Bible says “Christ dwells in you.” (Colossians 1:27) and that you are the “Temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 3:16).
Value what’s in you more than what’s outside you!
3. A Pencil Needs Pain
A pencil has to go through painful sharpening if it’s to be useful. If it doesn’t go through pain, it won’t be able to fulfill its purpose.
In the same way, you need to prepare yourself to go through painful sharpening—if you want God to use you. You will go through trials to test you, teach you, and train you to be better than you were before.
Look back into your life.
There must be a reason why you went through what you went through. There’s a reason why you went through that molestation, that separation, that abortion, that deprivation, isolation, that temptation, that purgation, that tribulation…
I was molested as a child. I will not wish it on my worst enemy. Yet I am able to speak words of healing today because of the pain that I went through.
4. A Pencil Needs Perseverance
If it makes a mistake, the pencil doesn’t give up. Why? Because it knows it has an eraser. The pencil simply erases its mistakes, and moves on. It doesn’t beat itself and condemn itself and say, “Oh, I’m so terrible. Why did I make a mistake? I’m a total failure.” No such words. When it makes a mistake, it simply erases and moves on.
In the same way, when you make a mistake, God gave you an eraser. It’s the most powerful eraser in the world. It’s called forgiveness.
God forgives you. And asks you to forgive yourself. And asks you to forgive others.
Use your eraser everyday!
5. A Pencil Needs Power
A pencil left by itself cannot fulfill its purpose. Because its power doesn’t come from itself but from the hand that holds it. For the pencil to make its mark in the world, it needs to allow someone’s hand to hold it.
In the same way, you need to allow God’s hand to hold you so you can fulfill your sacred purpose.
Are you allowing God’s hand to hold you, direct you, and use you now?
One day, an elderly carpenter was about to retire.
When he told the owner of the company that he was finally leaving, the man said, “I hate to let go such a great carpenter. Before you retire, can I ask a favor? Can you make one last house for me?”
The carpenter agreed, but he did so with a heavy heart. So when he was building the house, the passion was no longer there. It was shoddy workmanship. The people around him noticed, and they were sad to see him end such a sterling career in this way.
When the carpenter finished building the house, his Boss came over to inspect it. The man then faced the carpenter, took his hand, and placed the key of the house in his palm. “This house is yours,” the man said. “It’s our parting gift to you for all the years of service you gave the company.”
The carpenter was shocked. And then his heart was filled with painful regret. Oh, if he only knew he was building his own house, he would have done a better job!
WOW! A game like this makes NBA the Best.. It is really fun to watch the game.
And now, Miami Heat back in the leading spot again to win the NBA crown. Dwayne Wade carry the whole team with 42 points and pulled 13 rebound to win just two points, 88-86 over Dallas Mavericks. It was a low scoring ball game.
Just in the beginning of the 4th quarter when everything goes on Dallas way, Dwayne Wade pulled it off with a big comeback. Lets not forget Udonis Haslem who bothered Dirk Nowitzki just enough to make him miss a potentially game-tying jumper at the buzzer.
With the Heat leads the series with 2-1, it insure us that Mavs wont win the title in Dallas this season. Anyway, it was a fun way to watch. Though still unlikely that Miami will win the series but I have a strange feeling they will.
Game 4 is in Miami Thursday June 15, at 9:00 pm EDT. Can the Miami Heat win 2 games in a row? Well, lets all watch the game.
I have the opportunity to dine in Conching Restaurant and WOWW…, their native grilled chicken are delicious!. It is not any ordinary grilled chicken that you can taste and buy almost anywhere but it has this distinctive taste that makes you crave for more. It’s truly, simply the best.
They are located along Araullo and Mabini St., Davao City, it’s just a block or few meter away from Tumble Tots learning school. I have learned that the restaurant is a franchisee of the Original Conching’s Native Chicken in Cebu and brought here in Davao to taste their unique way of marinating and grilling the native chicken.
The place is just simple with an open air type restaurant, with a monobloc plastic tables and chairs, the grill station in front and some ready to eat food to choose from. The parking space is just along the road just outside the restaurant. I have the chance to meet the owner, Mr. Clovis Racho and his wife, Angel. Lovely and very nice couple.
Another thing I find very interesting, they serve you with pandan rice which we call it “PUSO (read in fast)” in visayan way. It is wrapped in pandan leaves and form like a heart or diamond in shape.
They have a facebook page, just search CONCHING NATIVE CHICKEN and wallahh, there is it. I have some photos to share taken from their facebook album.
Well after we’re done eating, what can we say? Nothing bad to say, the whole grilled native chicken is one thing to remember and worth coming back soon.
